- The two papers below argue that the Cosine Coriolis terms yield important momentum fluxes from convective scales to the large scale. They are weak but systematic. These fluxes can be calculated analytically!
E. J. Goldsmith, J. A Biello, and M. R. Igel (In Review): Nonlinear cloud dynamics with the non-traditional Coriolis force. Pending revisions at JAS.
J. A. Biello, D. H. Marsico, and M. R. Igel (Submitted): Upscale Momentum Flux from Convective Circulations under the influence of the Non-traditional Coriolis force terms. Submitted to QJRMS.
- The pair of papers below examines convective dynamics near the weak temperature gradient limit in the presence of the Cosine Coriolis Terms. One of the take home points, for me, is that the Equatorial Coriolis terms are better handled in 3D despite only appearing in 2 momentum equations. This is true regardless of the precise nature of the damping physics.
